This Star of Vergina charm is made from an etched Mexican coin, featuring the snake-eating eagle on the reverse side.

The Star of Vergina is a solar symbol that appears in ancient Greek art. This design is also referred to as the Vergina Sun, the Macedonian Star, or the Argead Star. It is not clear whether the star was used as a royal symbol, as a religious symbol representing the Olympian gods, or just as a simple decorative design. Sixteen and eight pointed suns were used on Greek art, armour, shields, and coins as early as the 6th century BC. The Vergina Sun was designated as the official national symbol of Greece in 1993.
